Biography
Born in Kanagawa, Japan, in 1998. Lives and works in Ishikawa. Ishijima works mainly in metal, making moving sculptures built on the escapement, the mechanism at the heart of the mechanical clock. Rather than treating this thirteenth-century device as a tool for managing time, he recasts it as a mechanism that produces deceleration within an accelerating society, and raises it as sculpture.
